Within a two-week time period, the rats that received the stem cell injection therapy had fully functioning ovaries again. After eight weeks, the rats’ hormone levels equaled those of rats who hadn’t experienced ovarian failure.

While the above study is in its early stages, regenerative medicine experts at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) successfully utilized human umbilical cord mesenchyme stem cells to rehabilitate a woman’s damaged ovary.

The researchers in the CAS study developed an injectable and degradable smart collagen scaffold with biomaterials to retain the stem cells at the injury site of the organs.

The treatment seems promising – the woman gave birth just last month.
