The potential of regenerative medicines never ceases to amaze us.

PRP and stem cell injection therapies are now commonly utilized to facilitate the natural healing of injuries, helping people avoid surgery and pharmaceuticals. More and more study results point to regenerative medicine potentially treating serious conditions such as heart disease and Alzheimer’s in the distant future.

Now, stem cell and PRP injection therapies are being used to reverse menopause, repair failing ovaries, and battle infertility in women who still want children!

During PRP injection therapy, the patient’s own blood is processed in a centrifuge, where blood platelets – carriers of powerful growth factors – are extracted, and injected back into the patient.

Some practitioners at PRP injection sites have been administering regenerative medicine into the soft tissue of the ovaries of infertile and menopausal women. According to Embio Medical Center, the PRP treatments should restart the menstrual cycle for a period of time in menopausal women, while pre-menopausal women will see an improvement in their hormone levels.

A treatment should produce an increase in the AMH level and decline in FSH and LH level between one and three months. Normal AMH levels (1.5 to 4.0 ng/ml) are associated with increased fertility and better response rates to fertility treatments.

Embio cites a 50-year-old woman whose periods restarted after experiencing 6 years of menopause. After six months, she had her first successful IVF attempt with a donor’s sperm and her own fertile eggs.

When ovaries are no longer functioning in women under forty, it’s known as premature ovarian failure, which causes infertility.

Researchers tested if embryonic stem cells from rats could bring back ovarian functioning in the rodents. Within a two-week time period, the rats that received the stem cell injection therapy had fully functioning ovaries again. After eight weeks, the rats’ hormone levels equaled those of rats who hadn’t experienced ovarian failure.

While the above study is in its early stages, regenerative medicine experts at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) successfully utilized human umbilical cord mesenchyme stem cells to rehabilitate a woman’s damaged ovary.

The researchers in the CAS study developed an injectable and degradable smart collagen scaffold with biomaterials to retain the stem cells at the injury site of the organs.

The treatment seems promising – the woman gave birth just last month.

With scattered success, there’s certainly hope that regenerative medicines and injection therapies can restore fertility in infertile women who want children.

But the success of these treatments is still anecdotal. We’ll have to wait and see as stem cell treatments and injection sites becomes more prominent and regulated.

Further scientific studies may prove that regenerative medicine can reverse the sands of time, giving infertile and menopausal women a chance at bearing a child.
