Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections involve withdrawing 30-60 cc of a patient’s OWN blood. Next, the blood is processed in a special centrifuge, which separates the blood into various components. One of the components, PRP, contains a high concentration of blood platelets, and as a result, a high concentration of Growth Factors . The PRP is then injected.
This therapy utilizes a patient’s adipose (fat), combined with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP), to provide a potent biological therapeutic combination. Fat contains many types of cells that are useful in the healing process, including stem cells, adipocytes, and various types of connective tissue cells, all of which have a role in healing. Combined with PRP, the management of various musculoskeletal conditions, such as osteoarthritis, has taken a big step forward. All affected joints can be treated, including hips, knees, ankles and shoulders.
Viscosupplements are injections of hyaluronic acid into arthrtic joints, which mimics the elasticity and thickness of healthy joint fluid. This helps the body temporarily restore its own lubricative and cushion for joint function.
