USING INJECTION THERAPY FOR TENNIS ELBOW

This elbow pain affects the common tendon on the outside of the elbow, which can be stubborn to treat due to the lack of blood supply. While individuals playing racquet sports are susceptible, hence the name ‘tennis elbow’, the truth is that more people are injured doing other activities, like computer work, weight training and repetitive activities during physical work. Tears are often present in this tendon and can require a more aggressive approach than the usual first line interventions of therapy, acupuncture, rest and shockwave therapy. Where surgery was once the only other option in treating these stubborn tendinopathies, injection therapy can now prevent this in many cases.

USING INJECTION THERAPY FOR GOLFER’S ELBOW

This tendinopathy affects the inside of the elbow, where the common flexor tendon attaches to the medial epicondyle of the humerus. Common in golfers, hence the name ‘golfer’s elbow’, it is actually more commonly caused by computer work, weight training and repetitive grasping/gripping movements. Tears are often present in this tendon which can invariably complicate the recovery, especially in those over 40.  Injection therapy is often the answer in these situations.
